Children and Families

Early intervention is critical in breaking the cycle of educational disadvantage. For this reason, the Lifelong Learning team provide a range of activities and practical supports to families with young children. We aim to do this in a way that makes learning fun and fully involves the parents and carers. We also work with local community stakeholders to create strong learning communities.

The focus of our services are local families living with complex needs – whether through housing insecurity; financial insecurity; challenges posed by cultural and language barriers, or specific needs of the children.

Our activities:

ParentChild+ Programme – a peer support programme, involving home visits over 50+ weeks. This programme supports parents to be their child’s best teacher, helping your child develop language, literacy and numeracy skills through play. A new book or toy delivered each week to help build an encouraging home learning environment.

Home from Home Programme is a 12 week peer support home visiting programme, targeting children / families who are in more transient circumstances (homelessness / family hub residents). Weekly visits are focussed on modelling play, with a non-judgemental, informal approach, reinforcing language, literacy, numeracy skills and social emotional development, critical to school success.

My Place to Play Programme – a 4-week Home Visiting programme. Delivered in partnership with Early Learning Ireland, with CYPSC funding
