Community Development

Community Development

We are a team of experienced professional and committed Community Workers dedicated to supporting Community and Voluntary activities in the Partnership area. We believe in people’s capacity to grow, change, and contribute to making their lives, their families’ lives, and their community life better.

Community work is concerned with working collectively with communities and groups for positive social change, inclusion and equality. We work from the Core principles of Community Development such as Collective Action, Empowerment, Social Justice, Equality, Anti-Discrimination and Participation.

We work and collaborate with agencies and groups such as Rialto Community Network, Dolphin CDA, Bluebell CDP, Family Resource Centre Inchicore, HSE, DCC etc., developing the capacity of local community groups and creating more sustainable Communities.

Some of the thematic areas under which we support groups are

  • Community Arts
  • Environmental/Regeneration
  • Older people
  • Intercultural
  • Disability
  • Men’s Groups
  • Women’s Groups
  • Health / Wellbeing

Community Arts

DSCP supports and engages with a range of Community groups in their artistic activities. In supporting these groups we hope to provide channels of development and expression for people in expressing their hope and dreams.

We have a strong commitment to supporting environmental group and collaborative social regeneration efforts. These groups are striving to improve the physical infrastructure of the areas, in which they live.

Older people constitute the largest number of groups supported by DSCP spread widely across the full catchment area. We support and engage these groups too actively participate in their local community.

DSCP supports interculturalism and equality and is proud to be involved with groups prompting these objectives. We work closely with various new communities in providing English language classes and networking the representative groups.

There are many disability organisations situated within our area that. We provide community based activities for participants and support inclusive and meaningful initiatives.

Men’s Groups

This growing area relates to the support of the many Men’s groups, which have sprung up over the past few years. Centering mainly on the activities of Men’s sheds we aim to support the capacity of the members to develop services and activities.

Women’s Groups

There are many well established and highly active women’s groups we support both locally and regionally. They develop participant’s capacity to articulate and address issues pertaining to women and their role and status in the community.

Health and wellbeing

An important new area of activity is the support of Community Based Health initiatives focusing on interventions to promote a healthier lifestyle. Central to the activities would be mental health, smoking cessation and social prescribing.
